Conversion rate

The conversion rate is the number of conversions divided by the number of visitors or clicks, expressed as a percentage. It is the ratio between what arrived and what was sent.

Ce qui s’est réellement passé, humains d’un côté, robots de l’autre. The forty terms of the trade

What it is for

It lets you compare channels of different sizes. A thousand clicks producing ten sales beats ten thousand producing fifteen, and only a rate shows it. It is also the indicator that says whether the problem is upstream, in the publishing, or downstream, on the landing page.

How it is calculated

Conversions divided by clicks, over the same scope and the same period. Both numbers must cover exactly the same thing: a total of conversions from all origins divided by the clicks of a single link gives a rate that does not exist.

The classic mistake

Comparing two channels' conversion rates without looking at what sells. A 1% channel selling €3,000 engagements brings in more than an 8% channel selling accessories — the rate ignores the amount.

Conversion

The question that always follows a bad rate

Is it the publishing or the page that is wrong?

A bad click-through rate accuses the hook. A bad conversion rate accuses the landing page.

The two rates point at different places in the journey. That is exactly why they are kept apart.

The amount the rate does not tell you

What Subtraq does with it

The screens give both numbers per day and per placement: clicks on one side, leads and attributed revenue on the other. The rate itself is not displayed — it depends on the conversion you decided to count.

« Conversion rate », une fois posé sur de vraies ventes

The real question is not how many clicks, but which ones count. The report separates humans from robots, visits from people, and always says what it does not know.
