Zapier Webhook: Every Attributed Conversion

Subtraq knows where every conversion came from. Your CRM, your spreadsheet, your Slack channel don't yet. Zapier expects exactly what Subtraq sends: an address and a JSON.

Zapier

Webhooks by Zapier → Catch Hook → Test → Copy

The address is Zapier's: you copy it from the "Test" tab of the trigger and paste it into Subtraq. From there, every lead or every sale fires the Zap — no Subtraq app to install in Zapier.

The exact path in the Zap editor

In Zapier, 3 steps

Three steps and one address

In Subtraq, you choose what the webhook sends — leads, sales, or both — and whether it applies to a single client workspace or the whole account. The signing secret is shown once: copy it if your Zap needs to verify the sender.

According to Zapier's help page, "Webhooks by Zapier" is available on the Free, Professional, Team, and Enterprise plans.

1

In the Zap editor, click the “Trigger” step, then search for and choose “Webhooks by Zapier”.

2

In the “Event” menu, choose “Catch Hook”, then “Continue” — “Pick Off A Child Key” can stay empty, “Continue” again.

3

In the “Test” tab, the webhook address appears: click “Copy”, then paste it into Subtraq, under “Outbound webhooks”.

Path checked in Zapier's documentation on September 11, 2026 — the original page. Interfaces change: if what you see no longer matches, the source wins.

What the Zap receives

A signed, documented JSON

Zapier splits each field and makes it usable in the next steps of the Zap: the email to the CRM, the link label to a column, the amount to a Slack message.

A null placement is not an oversight: it's a conversion Subtraq couldn't attribute, and it says so rather than inventing a source.

What we call attribution

What goes out on each conversion

The fields, as the code writes them

event (lead or sale) · at · space (slug and name of the space) · person (email, external identifier) · placement (slug and label of the source link, or null if the conversion is unattributed) · amountMinor and currency for a sale · eventId.

Before counting on it

Three things to know

1

No queue

Two attempts per send, then the failure is logged in the app, next to the webhook, with its date and message. A destination that's down for several minutes loses the sends from that window — the conversion itself is recorded regardless.

2

A turned-off Zap returns 404, with a delay

According to Zapier, a disabled or deleted Zap returns 404 to sends — after a propagation delay that can reach several hours. And the address changes if the Zap changes owner: you then need to paste the new one into Subtraq.

3

A signature, if you want to verify the sender

Each send carries the X-Subtraq-Signature header: "t=TIMESTAMP,v1=SIGNATURE," where SIGNATURE is the HMAC-SHA256 of "TIMESTAMP.BODY" computed with the secret shown at webhook creation.

And consent — where does that fit?

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install a Subtraq app in Zapier?

No. Zapier expects an address and a JSON — that's what Subtraq sends. Nothing to install in Zapier, nothing to publish.

Does the trigger work on Zapier's free plan?

Zapier's help page linked under the steps lists "Webhooks by Zapier" on the Free, Professional, Team, and Enterprise plans, as of the recorded date.

How do I test without waiting for a real sale?

Trigger a lead on the workspace — submitting a connected form is enough — then click "Test trigger" in Zapier's Test tab: the help page describes exactly this flow.

What if Zapier is down when a conversion happens?

The conversion is recorded regardless; it's the send that fails. Two attempts, then the failure is logged in the app, next to the webhook.

Make, n8n — same thing?

Yes: the same JSON, to the address of a "receive a webhook" trigger. The Make guide gives the path in its interface; n8n has its own guide too.

You work in Make instead?

Same move, same JSON: Make's "Webhooks > Custom webhook" module has its own guide, recorded the same day from its documentation.

Paste the address into your Zap

Create the account, add the webhook, paste Zapier's address. The first attributed lead fires the first Zap.
