Conversion

A conversion is the action expected of a visitor: submitting a form, booking a meeting, paying. So it is not necessarily a sale — it is the step you decided to count as a success.

Ce qui s’est réellement passé, humains d’un côté, robots de l’autre. The forty terms of the trade

What it is for

It is the definition that makes everything else comparable. Two agencies reporting “40 conversions” are not talking about the same thing if one counts forms and the other payments. The word is worth nothing without the sentence saying which action it refers to.

How it is set

You write it down before measuring, in one sentence, and you do not change it mid-period. A conversion redefined along the way produces a curve that rises without anything having happened — and it is the hardest analysis error to trace afterwards.

The classic mistake

Counting several kinds of action in the same total. Forms and payments added together give a number that relates to no decision: you know neither how many people asked, nor how many paid.

Lead

Three steps, three kinds

Click

Someone came through. Nothing names them yet.

Lead

They left a way to reach them.

Sale

They paid. It is the only one carrying an amount.

The middle step, the one most often skipped

What Subtraq does with it

Subtraq records two distinct kinds: the lead and the sale. They never mix in a total, and both can be sent to a third-party service separately.

« Conversion », une fois posé sur de vraies ventes

The real question is not how many clicks, but which ones count. The report separates humans from robots, visits from people, and always says what it does not know.
