Unique click

A unique click is a visit counted only once per person, even if they clicked several times. The click total counts visits; the unique click total attempts to count people.

Ce qui s’est réellement passé, humains d’un côté, robots de l’autre. The forty terms of the trade

What it is for

The two numbers answer two different questions. Visits measure a link's activity — useful for judging a post. People measure the audience reached — useful for judging reach. Confusing the two mechanically inflates any audience estimate.

How it is calculated

You need a way to recognise the same person from one visit to the next, which always requires following them in some fashion. That is precisely where measurement becomes a privacy matter: counting visits identifies nobody, counting people requires telling them apart.

The classic mistake

Presenting a visit total as a number of people. A link clicked three times by the same enthusiastic buyer becomes “three leads”, and the conversion rate drawn from it is divided by three for no reason.

Deduplication

Two totals, two questions

300 clicks

180 people

The first judges a link. The second judges an audience. Swapping them skews every rate that follows.

What Subtraq does with it

Subtraq counts human visits, and does not report unique clicks: that would mean telling people apart, which the product refuses to do in order to count. Deduplication exists elsewhere, on touchpoints — the same click credits the same person only once.

« Unique click », une fois posé sur de vraies ventes

The real question is not how many clicks, but which ones count. The report separates humans from robots, visits from people, and always says what it does not know.
