Subtraq vs Short.io: the comparison

Both make short links on your own domain. Short.io has more options on the link itself — targeting, passwords, A/B tests, link pages. Subtraq has one obsession: what the link brought in, and which client it is owed to. Depending on the question you are asking, the choice makes itself.

Where Short.io is genuinely stronger

More link options at Short.io

Short.io treats the link as an object to configure, and it does that better than we do. Unlimited redirects on every plan, import from another shortener, QR codes in your colours: on that ground it is ahead, and that is not our match.

What none of its tiers does: set the ad spend against a link's revenue, and send it to the end client in a report under your name. That one is ours.

Choose Short.io if

You want to tune the link in every detail: destination by country or device, password, expiry by date or click count, A/B tests, link pages and bundles on your domain, an API at 50 requests per second on every plan.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is Short.io?

A branded link shortener, among the most complete on link options: custom domains, country and device targeting, QR codes, A/B tests, link pages, an API on every plan. Public pricing from $0 to $148 a month, recorded 26/08/2026.

Does Short.io have an API? And Subtraq?

Yes: Short.io advertises an API on all its plans, at 50 requests per second, with an annual ceiling on links created that way depending on the tier. Subtraq exposes an API and an MCP server for your agents — the documentation is on the MCP page.

Can I move my Short.io links to Subtraq?

Yes, by CSV. According to its pricing page, Short.io provides the export on request to its support; here, the import is by file — one column for the destination, one for the short code. The counters start from zero, we would rather tell you.

And on price, simply?

At the entry of serious work: $18 with them (Pro), $39 with us (Pro). Ours is more expensive, and it does not do the same job. The question is not the gap — it is what you are asking of your link.

Is Short.io GDPR-compliant?

Its pricing page presents it as a GDPR processor on all its plans. Subtraq is hosted in the European Union; what is collected, and what is not, is detailed on the security and GDPR page.
