Tracking link
A tracking link is an address that redirects to a destination while recording the visit. It differs from a plain shortcut by its intent: brevity is a side effect, measurement is the point.

What it is for
It is the only point in the journey you fully control. A platform can change its statistics, an ad network can change its attribution; the link counts its own visits. It is also what lets you measure a channel that offers no statistics at all — a flyer, a QR code, a video description.
How it is set up
You publish the short address in place of the long one, everywhere the link goes out. One address per publishing place: the same link pasted in four places produces one total, never four comparable rows.
The classic mistake
Putting it on a domain you do not own. The day you change tools, every published link dies at once — and published links are, by definition, the ones you can no longer edit.

- Makes an address measurable.
- Ties the visit to what followed.
- Lives on a domain you own.
The first answers “how many”. The second, “how much did it bring in”.
What Subtraq does with it
Every click records the date, the placement, the country, the device, the referrer and the link's parameters, then redirects. And a link is never deleted in Subtraq: it is archived, because an address already published cannot be taken back.

A badly placed label cannot be fixed afterwards: the link is already published. The builder writes the address without a syntax error, and the preview shows what the report will make of it.
