Channel

A channel is where a link was published: a newsletter, an Instagram bio, a video description, a flyer. It says where the click was born — never where it leads.

Dire d’où vient un clic avant qu’il ne soit trop tard pour le savoir. The forty terms of the trade

What it is for

It is the level at which you decide where to publish next week. A report by destination tells you which pages interest people; a report by channel tells you which places are worth your time. For an agency or a creator, the second question is the one with a cost attached.

How it is told apart

One link per channel, without exception. The same link pasted in the newsletter and in the bio produces a single total, and comparing the two places becomes impossible afterwards — there is no way to retroactively separate clicks you mixed together.

The classic mistake

Confusing channel and destination. “The shop channel” does not exist: the shop is where you arrive. The channel is the story that sent you there.

The confusion that costs the most

A channel says where you came from. A destination says where you are going. Only one of the two is a decision.

You do not choose your buyers. You choose the places where you publish.

What Subtraq does with it

The report breaks down by placement, by referrer and by utm_source, which gives three readings of the same departure. Mind the word: in the screens, “by medium” means the split between clicked links and scanned QR codes.

A badly placed label cannot be fixed afterwards: the link is already published. The builder writes the address without a syntax error, and the preview shows what the report will make of it.
